Pasha; opening comunnities.(kenya)

“Pasha” is a Swahili word that means ‘to cause to get,

GOK has a project under the ICT board dubbed pasha,

The main aim of the project is to cause rural areas to get access and be able to use ICT resources.

It’s also a way of creating economic opportunities that will boost the development of rural areas thus a way of

Bridging the already existent “digital-divide”.

ICT is definitely a way of achieving millennium goals for a developing country like Kenya.

Pasha has also partnered with family bank to give loans to start-ups that have a convincing way of running business payable in 3 years.

3years is hereby assumed that the company should have broken even and on its feet by then.

I assume this is a great chance to all those whose idea needs just funding to complete the package.

A while ago I read Nicholas Carr’s article “DOES IT MATTER” which describes IT as a necessity to business ventures in future and is no longer an advantage to business ventures using it assuming from the big companies to the rural areas who’ve now been ‘caused to get’ this advancement in technology.

This move I agree is a great one towards our millennium development goals. Keep it Pasha!

Software Testing

After a talk this afternoon at a school by Tezza Business solutions  CEO Roland Omoresemi I get a hint that there is a future in software testing both in our continent and the world as a whole.
Software testers are people meant to test software of errors and help in getting errors at a comfortable early stage easing the need for spending lots of money and resources on damage control over errors that would have been earlier detected.
Some important traits of a software tester are
·         Analysis skills
·         Attention to detail
·         Inquisitive
·         Technical skills
·         Qualitative way of thought

Apple after the release of ipod4 had late problem eruptions which cost them a sum of 128million USD,
a sum which according to Mr. Roland was way above what they would have spent in repairing the problem
had it been discovered before rolling out of the market. Generally how he put it is that software testers
are a necessary part of our future developing. Software Testing apparently grows at 50% annually a
rate that is much more than software developing by a huge gap. His idea of sourcing for software
testers fresh from university is brilliant since this is the only place to get the large number of
people whose demand continues to grow daily.

According to indeed.com as at today 12:00am there are 7,985 job vacancies for software
testers over the whole world. This I consider a great field to venture in since the number of
institutes providing software testing as a course is also limited to mean that
not many software testers are produced at each graduation.

The sustainability of the career is again secure since there will be software developing more and
More and since the last part of the SDLC is maintenance, this means that different testing
Will be taking place to improve the software.

Word is, Mr. Roland got me thinking of an option for my career,

The continuing evolution of HTML

____________________
HTML 5 has an API for video which means that flash will no longer be necessary for embedding any video on web. html 4 was dependent on flash for video embeds. I suppose adobe has to come-up with something exciting and a worthy cause to user agents and authors to keep flash in using in future.
The
style element has a new scoped attribute which can be used to enable scoped style sheets. Style rules within such a style element only apply to the local tree.
on style again, the type attribute is no longer necessary should you use CSS to define the style

Character encoding too has been made easier,
coders have 3 options to do it;

  • At the transport level. By using the HTTP Content-Type header for instance.
  • Using a Unicode Byte Order Mark (BOM) character at the start of the file. This character provides a signature for the encoding used.
  • Using a meta element with a charset attribute that specifies the encoding within the first 512 bytes of the document. E.g. <meta charset="UTF-8"> could be used to specify the UTF-8 encoding. This replaces the need for <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> although that syntax is still allowed.

Processing instructions and shorthand markup are no longer usable in HTML5

It's also worth noting that HTML5 will not be considered finished before there are at least two implementations of the specification.<thus ensuring specifications are implementable and usable>
generally with  the new API's specified by HTML5 such as drag and drop, timed media playback and document editing, there are lot's of excitement and expectations of HTML5's implementation.

In a short phrase description; HTML5 is the future of web.

Happy 10 Wikipedia

Today all over the world, Wikipedia celebrates its 10th anniversary since it was founded in 2001.
This is an important day to our resourceful open online encyclopedia. It was founded by jimmy Wales based on the concept that anyone can post and edit information which gives the opportunity to millions of people a forum to share knowledge. The main idea behind Wikipedia is that nobody knows everything but everyone knows something worth sharing with another. Wikipedia is among the top four visited-websites receiving close to 400million hits a month.
Wikipedia’s 10th anniversary has been celebrated worldwide in most big cities.
In Nairobi it was hosted by Strathmore University . And graced by Ting Chen, Chairman of the board of trustees at Wikipedia  and other wikimedians.
The Wikimedia Kenya launched its project Wikipedia for schools which is a project to install offline Wikipedia version to schools that have no access to expensive internet services in Kenya. It’s my hope that this project is successful thus the spread of knowledge and Wikipedia usage too in Africa.

I congratulate Wikipedia on this day on its 10th year. I’m positive that you will walk the long way ahead in getting more usage in Africa!
Kudos Wikimedia foundation too for the work
